Lately, I've heard some people talking about fashion icons and I've even seen a top made by a famous Romanian fashion magazine of fashion icons and, sadly, I came to the conclusion that the concept of " Fashion Icon" is misunderstood. To make it clear from the beginning, not any celebrity can be taken as a fashion standard.
Lets try to answer to these questions: What does Fashion Icon mean?
Who are the real Fashion Icons?
In my view, it is really important to remain objective while talking about Fashion Icons. We should know that not everyone in the magazines or on the TV is a fashion etalon; even if we admire someone, we should reflect on the reason we have this sympathy and not anything that person does for good. As I said, reflection is really constructive. This is available for fashion, too. Unfortunatelly, not every public person takes into account hiring a stylist. A lot of celebrities wear expensive clothing which looks bad because they believe they have an amazing personal style. A professional never does this.
What does Fashion Icon mean? Well, in my opinion, a Fashion Icon is a person who is accepted by almost every fashion critic as being a well dressed person, someone who usually appears in the Best Dressed section( not one who accidentally dresses well), a person with a genuine personal style that not only fits his/ her body, but also his/ her personality and attitude, a person whose style is definitely unmistakeable!
Examples of Fashion Icons( this is just my opinion, if you don't agree, feel free to comment):
- Coco Chanel( The One and The Only!)
- Audrey Hepburn( we all know that Hubert de Givenchy in person took care that miss Hepburn will always look... Iconic!; she is believed to be the most elegant and the best dressed female of all times, she has never been dethroned; her pictures became " archetypal")
- Lisa Fonssagrives
- Anna Wintour( her style is unmistakeable: large sunglasses, helmet haircut, her image is also... Iconic!)
- Anna dello Russo( " shoe maniac"; eccentric)
- Carine Roitfeld( ex-model; muse to Tom Ford at Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent; associated with Versace and Calvin Klein)
- Miroslava Duma
- Ulyana Sergeenko( dramatic, theatrical style)
- Daphne Guinness
Romanian Fashion Icons: unfortunately, I can only think of one right now- Iulia Albu.
Iulia Albu is a fashion editor and a fashion blogger( http://www.theflappergirlchronicle.ro/). After she graduated from the Law School, she attended the Fashion Design section at the Univeristy of Arts. Almost all of her outfits are designed by her. Her last name comes from her ex-husband, one of the best Romanian designers, Mihai Albu, from whom she has learned a lot, she admitted in some public speech. It's a pity that in Romania she is more famous because of her divorce and for having a hen as a pet, rather than being a fashion icon and a very active person in the Romanian fashion journalism and events. She describes herself as " Flapper Girl" and in an article on her blog she wrote that her style was highly influenced by her aunt, Ileana Focșa ( actress).
Who do you consider is worth being " labeled" as a Fashion Icon? Please let me know.
See you soon,
Love, A.

The Great Gatsby
Long time no see! Yes, I know and I am really sorry. I've been running out of time lately and this period won't end soon. This, of course, doesn't mean I haven't been thinking about my blog and my readers. So, I thought that coming back with a fabulous topic would be a great way to make amends.
For tonight, I'm bringing in a topic that I am sure we all love: The Great Gatsby. I read the book last year and I immediately fell in love with Fitzgerald( so I also read The Beautiful and the Damned, which is also fab). I'm so into descriptions of eras, like the ones Fitzgerald made in this amazing novel, I found out so many things about the 20s, how people had fun, their habbits, their lifestyle, their homes, their clothing, their desires...
In my point of view, the 20s were fascinathing years: women got empancipated, freedom became a virtue and Fashion became closer to art, expensive fabrics stared being used and elegant accessories became the must-haves of every respectable woman. The http://www.1920-30.com/fashion/ says: “ Hats, shoes, stockings, handbags, dresses and jewelry all came together in harmony to create a unique and elegant style that can only be appreciated when seen in real-life or in color illustrations.”
Talking about the 20s Fashion, as we all know, this year, The Great Gatsby was screened by Baz Luhrmann. There’s been a lot said about the fabulous costumes and I really can’t wait to see the movie( shame on me, I haven’t seen it yet…). The costumes are made by the Brooks Brothers and by Prada. Catherine Martin said on the Black Carpet Premiere that as source she used the costume library and “ the book itself”.
We cannot talk about costumes without saying a few words about one of the main characters, Daisy Buchanan, interpreted by Carey Mulligan. She had to wear 40 costumes, but her favourite was the one in the first scene, she confesses on the Black Carpet. She made a joke about this, she compared her character with the Kardashian saying both Daisy’s and the Kardashian’s “ business is to look good.” Due to this movie, Carey Mulligan had her first Vogue cover in May:
Leonardo Di Caprio, who plays Jay Gatsby, said that “ Gatsby is the American Dream”, that he is a character about whom people will be talking in 300 from now on.
Isla Fisher, who believes that this is the “ classic American novel”, had to put on 10 pounds for her role in The Great Gatsby, Myrtle Wilson.
I’m really looking forward to seeing this film. I hope I can go to the cinema this weekend…
Here are some photos from the Black Carpet:
Carey Mulligan wore Lanvin and Tiffany & Co.
Isla Fisher wore Dolce and Gabbana
Florence Welch wore Miu Miu
Anna Wintour wore Chanel and Manolo Blahnik
Have a classy evening and a beautiful weekend!
See you soon,
Love, A.

Geisha inspired Outfit
I wore it yesterday at a baptism. I was inspired by the classic Geisha look, but I adapted it for the event and for the European style.
What do you think of this outfit?

Nicole Richie at the 2013 MET Gala
Today I took a closer look to some photos of Nicole Richie on the red carpet of the MET Gala. I must say that I'm impressed. Nicole Richie has been my style icon since I was 13 or 14 and she has never let me down ever since. Rachel Zoe was the one who " saved" her after her major weight loss and what I most like about her is that she has learned a lot from her tutor and sometimes she even overtook Rachel.
For the MET Gala red-carpet, Nicole wore a Topshop Unique dress, Dana Rebecca Designs earrings, a vintage Francesca Pepe ring and a House of Harlow 1960 clutch. Her makeup was impecable and her hair is surprisingly stylish and it suits her really well.
I feel sorry I didn't include her on my Best Dressed list from the first time, but I guess it is better later than never. The fact that her look stuck into my mind and made me look over and over again at the photos shows how well she managed to be intriguing, attractive and unique. In one word, Nicole Richie was STUNNING.
What do you think of Nicole Richie's look? Hot or Not?

The 2013 MET Gala. Punk: The Chaos of Couture
This year gala highlighted the Metropolitan Museum of Art's spring exhibition: Punk: The Chaos of Couture.
As its title says, punk really seems to be the chaos of couture, but is there everything permitted? Definitely not. When it comes about Fashion, in theory, you can do anything that you believe helps you express your personality, style, a certain message, but it is very important to wear something that suits you; and I would put this on the first place. This year, the met gala was absolutely fabulous.
- Theme? PUNK;
- Must haves? Anything shocking ...but still Couture;
- Language? PUNK:
The red carpet photos are gorgeous, I am so enchanted by what I've seen. of course there were celebrities that didn't do it so right, but overall, they did the best.
I've seen some new trends, androgynous hairstyles and makeup, leather and satin pants and, of course, black lace, a lot of punk elements.
