Nicole Richie at the 2013 MET Gala

Today I took a closer look to some photos of Nicole Richie on the red carpet of the MET Gala. I must say that I'm impressed. Nicole Richie has been my style icon since I was 13 or 14 and she has never let me down ever since. Rachel Zoe was the one who " saved" her after her major weight loss and what I most like about her is that she has learned a lot from her tutor and sometimes she even overtook Rachel.

For the MET Gala red-carpet, Nicole wore a Topshop Unique dress, Dana Rebecca Designs earrings, a vintage Francesca Pepe ring and a House of Harlow 1960 clutch. Her makeup was impecable and her hair is surprisingly stylish and it suits her really well.

I feel sorry I didn't include her on my Best Dressed list from the first time, but I guess it is better later than never. The fact that her look stuck into my mind and made me look over and over again at the photos shows how well she managed to be intriguing, attractive and unique. In one word, Nicole Richie was STUNNING.

What do you think of Nicole Richie's look? Hot or Not?

Mens Sana in Corpore Sano

I have always been frustrated by the way in which my body looks like, even after I lost a lot of weight it was the same. Talking to my friends, colleagues and poeple I met I was surprised to hear that they have the same problem. Moreover, they always complain about their body types and about their weight more passionately when it comes about clothing; they usually complain about the fact that the fabrics and the stitches are made only for the Victoria's Secret Angels. I must admit... that's my complaint also. But thank God I have never did something that extrem that could jeopardize my healt. Unfortunatelly, a lost of people did so without thinking that in the end... it will only matter who we really are, no how we look like( we are all getting old and who knows what for will the others remember us; usually, the facts matter more).

The truth is that on the catwalk there are only skinny models, there are very few designers who create clothing for voluptuous women. Our Fashion inspiration always come from the skinny person, from the skinny socialites, ... everybody wants to be skinny! I won't pretend that I have never wanted to be able to wear any kind of blouse or any pair of trousers... BUT girls( especially teenagers) usually apply the fastest way in which one can lose weight, but definitely not the healthiest one: eating disorders.

The world cares so much about the image so the only solution to gain success is looking good. This is not such a big issue, it's OK to want to pe perfect, everybody is trying to achieve perfection. The problem is that we don't do this in a safe way, by having a well-balanced diet and by visiting the gym 3 times/week. We choose the way in which health can destabilize; there were a lot of girls who got anorexia and bulimia because they wanted to be thin... some of them even died because of this foolish ambition.
Look what MedlinePlus said about these two illnesses:
- Anorexia nervosa: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000362.htm
- Bulimia: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000341.htm

There are well known the cases of Nicole Richie, the Mary Kate Olsen and Lindsay Lohan; these girls used to be healthy, to have a healthy figure until they developed this obsession for being thin. A lot of young ladies took them as examples and, impressed by their style and by their skinny bodies in which clothes looked amazing, did the same. Look at these photos... can you find any feminine or beautiful aspect in them?

( Thank God Nicole Richie is a responsible mom now!)

Being skinny-anorexic-bulimic is not cool, sexy or beautiful; it is scary, creepy and unhealthy. Being FIT and ATHLETIC is something else; there are a lot of recipes and a lot of exercises that can be practiced at home( a lot of us spend most of the time working or studying).

Brierley Wright, a nutrition editor, says that there are 8 " Secret- Weapon Foods" for weight loss: Mushrooms, Eggs, Apples, Low Calorie Desserts( like dark chocolate), Soup, Oatmeal, Hot Chile Peppers and Almonds. You can visit this site because he even gives for each " Weapon Food" some healthy recipes: http://www.eatingwell.com/nutrition_health/weight_loss_diet_plans/diet_exercise_tips/8_secret_weapon_foods_for_weight_loss

I really like the Pilates exercises; there are a lot of tutorials on youtube and all over the internet, here is an examples which I consider useful: http://www.youtube.com/user/blogilates?feature=watch

I hope that the skinny trend is gone and that it is replaced with the healthy diets and exercises. It's not worth getting ill for looking good, it is important to both feel good and look good, as the Latins believed " Mens sana in corpore sano"( a healthy mind in a healthy body).

   See you soon,

Boho-chic. Melancholia

I really miss summer. This weekend was rainy and cold and I spent almos all of it home, watching TV, reading, listening to music and drawing( I also ate sweets but keep this as a secret). I like collecting photos of celebrities who dress up nicely and these couple of days I " visited" my gallery and found some " boho-chic" celebs who reminded me of those lazy, peaceful sunny days.
Boho-chic comes from bohemian and chic and it is inspired by the `60s hippie style. The must-haves of this style are the floaty skirts, furry gilets, embroidered tunics, cropped jackets, large faux-coin belts, sandals, cowboy boots, baggy cardigans and "hobo bags", tights or leggings and hand made jewellery combined with golden ones.
Boho-chic makes me think of my wonderful idol, Jim Morrison( lead singer of The Doors, poet and director), and also of Janis Joplin, Kurt Cobain and Amy Winehouse. Their music is so unique and inspiring, I must admit that the " 27club" is so awsome and it's such a pity that they are not among us anymore. It is unbelievable how harmful things are stronger than will, talent, kindness and beauty. This year, Jim Morrison would have been 70, the same as Rolling Stones' Mick Jagger. You can interpret this as a tribute to the rock stars reminded. I believe that wearing clothes inspired by them is like saying their names daily and telling them that their " good deeds" are still alive.
I will share some of my photos with you and I hope you will enjoy viewing them.

Inspiration

Fashion is a permanent changing domain, trends are always moving...  how do we keep up?
We usually find a role model ( who is usually a celebrity, a designer, a model, ...). I find totally right to find such a model, at least until you can define your own style. But do we always chose the right person?
I love waking up early and going out on the wonderful streets in my city. They are really crowded and it is the perfect ocasion to observe and " study" people. You may guess that my attention is especially set on girls my age, young women, who are on their way to success. Unfortunatelly, I don't always see the right clothing combination ( the reason can be mutiple: getting up early can be an issue for some people, being always late also applies...)... But what if these women have actually a role model who was chosen on a wrong basis. I cand tell this because it is obsvious when a person dress to impress and this is the worst thing that can happen. How do we choose our role models?
It is really important to get inspired by an apropriate person and try not to become a copy of the " archetype". The first step would be to analyse our own style. Where does Fashion get inspired from? Music, Art, Literature, Nature...( see where you are). Then, unless we addopt a classy style which usually suits any type of bodt, I thing that it would be a great idea to be honest with ourselves and start analyzing our body types. If we really love an eccentric, exotic, extravagant style, we should be really cautious: the person we chose as a model would better have the same body type as ours and also a similar personality; the best style is the one we feel the most comfortable wearing, the one that expresses the exact message that we want to transmit.    Here is a source which shows us what to wear according to our body types:

I hope this will be useful.
I will post some photos of certain celebs that we all recognize for their great style.
   See you soon,
   Love, A.
